Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 10:18 PM PDT Jun. 18, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch now in effect until 10 am PDT Tuesday...

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* a portion of western Nevada, including the following area,
Pleasant Valley, and the Steamboat area south of Reno.

* Until 10 am PDT Tuesday

* a partial breach was discovered Monday in the dam at Little
Washoe Lake. The dam has not failed. Crews worked to plug The
Breach and officials report these efforts have succeeded in
reducing the threat of a failure leading to downstream flooding.
These efforts will continue and the risk is being continually
monitored. We have extended the watch to allow time for more
information to be gathered that would lead to further lessening
of the risk.

* While less likely now, if the dam were to suffer a breach,
higher flows would be expected on Steamboat Creek through
Pleasant Valley into the Steamboat Valley area. The latest
computer modeling efforts result in flooding potential similar
to the flooding that occurred along Steamboat Creek on
February 10, 2017.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Steamboat Creek will be most susceptible to flooding in this
scenario. Persons living along Steamboat Creek should monitor the
latest information at weather.Gov/Reno and be prepared to take
action should flooding occur.
