Flash Flood Watch

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through late tonight...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of north and central New Mexico, including the
following areas: San Francisco River Valley and Southwest
Mountains.

* Through late tonight

* an abrupt surge of subtropical moisture will continue to move into
southwestern New Mexico through the late afternoon and evening.
This will lead to scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms,
many of which will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall.

* High rainfall rates over short durations will produce excessive
runoff in many areas, and this could lead to flash flooding in
localized areas. Repeated movement of storms over the same areas
will also escalate the flash flooding threat. Wildfire burn scars
will be especially susceptible to flash flooding, including the
buzzard wildfire burn scar.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash
flood warnings be issued.
