* until 800 PM EDT Tuesday
* at 801 PM EDT, emergency management officials reported severe
ongoing flooding. Numerous roads are closed, impassible or washed
away. Heed any Road closures. Some area rivers, creeks and streams
are still rising. Even though Florence has moved away, flooding
still remains a significant threat.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Fayetteville, Goldsboro, Sanford, Laurinburg, Albemarle, Southern
Pines, Smithfield, Rockingham, Clinton and Wadesboro.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route. Turn around, don't drown when
encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. Do not underestimate the power of flood waters. Only a few
inches of rapidly flowing water can quickly carry away your vehicle.
