... Brief wintry weather possible across the northern North
Carolina mountains today...

Moisture will overspread the northern mountains of North Carolina
today from the west. With temperatures below freezing this
morning, rising slowly through the day, a wintry mix of light
freezing rain, sleet, and/or snow will be possible through the
day. Light accumulations of snow, generally less than an inch but
with isolated locations possibly seeing a couple of inches, will
be possible mainly this afternoon, as well as isolated trace
amounts of ice on elevated surfaces. Some slick spots may develop
on bridges or overpasses, but any accumulations should melt as
temperatures warm and precipitation changes to all rain late this
evening.
