... Heat advisory remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening...
* heat index values... up to 112.
* Impacts... exposure to the oppressive heat and humidity without
a way to cool down may lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion,
and possibly heat stroke.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or in
the evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke. When outside, wear light weight and loose fitting
clothing when possible and drink plenty of cool water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location immediately!
Heat stroke is an emergency... call 9 1 1.
A heat advisory means that an extended period of hot temperatures
and high humidity are expected.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create
conditions where heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of cool
non-alcoholic fluids and remain in an air conditioned room if
possible. Stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and
neighbors. Watch your pets! If at all possible they should be
kept indoors. Temperatures within vehicles can become lethal in a
only few minutes. Never leave children or pets in vehicles for
any duration! Remember: beat the heat, check the backseat.
