Flood Warning, Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 8:50 AM CDT May. 25, 2019 – National Weather Service

The Flood Warning continues for
the marais des cygnes river near Trading Post.
* Until further notice.
* At 8:15 am Saturday the stage was 38.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 27.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue to fall to a stage of 37.5 feet
by Sunday morning.
* At 27.0 feet... flooding of low-lying farmland occurs and water
begins to affect Stateline Road north of the gauge.

The Flood Warning continues for
the marais des cygnes river at La Cygne.
* Until Thursday evening.
* At 8:31 am Saturday the stage was 31.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 25.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 31.8 feet by
early Monday morning. The river will fall below flood stage
Wednesday evening.
* At 30.0 feet... Highway 152 floods 0.75 miles west of La Cygne. If
Middle Creek is also flooding Highway 152, the only Route into or
out of La Cygne will be the County Road, or 4th street, leading
north from La Cygne.
* At 25.0 feet... low lying farmland and other rural land floods.

Cass County in west central Missouri...
Bates County in west central Missouri...
Clay County in west central Missouri...
southeastern Platte County in west central Missouri...
Jackson County in west central Missouri...

* until 1000 am CDT Saturday.

* At 1258 am CDT, local law enforcement reported flooding over
several roadways where one to two inches of rain have fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Kansas City, Overland Park, Olathe, Independence, Lee's Summit,
Shawnee, Blue Springs, Lenexa, Leawood, Raytown, Liberty,
Gladstone, Grandview, Belton, Prairie Village, Raymore, Gardner,
Grain Valley, Lansing and Excelsior Springs.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of Kansas and Missouri, including the following
areas, in Kansas, Atchison KS, Doniphan, Johnson KS,
Leavenworth, Linn KS, Miami, and Wyandotte. In Missouri,
Adair, Andrew, Atchison MO, Bates, Buchanan, Caldwell,
Carroll, Cass, Clay, Clinton, Daviess, De Kalb, Gentry,
Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Jackson, Johnson MO, Lafayette, Linn
MO, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway, Platte, Putnam, ray,
Schuyler, Sullivan, and Worth.

* Through Sunday morning

* ongoing rain showers and thunderstorms will taper off Saturday
morning before additional storm development is possible by the
late afternoon and evening hours. An additional one to two
inches of rainfall are expected through Sunday morning, with
locally higher amounts possible. These storms will produce heavy
rainfall over areas that are already saturated from recent
storms.

* Low-lying and flood-prone areas will be most susceptible to
the dangers of flash flooding. Areas near rivers, creeks, and
streams will likely become flooded during and immediately
after heavy rainfall. Be very careful if driving at night as
flood water are very hard to see.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
