... Flood Warning in effect until further notice...

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a
* Flood Warning for
the West Fork Des Moines River at Emmetsburg, or from near
Graettinger... to Cylinder creek near West Bend.
* Until further notice.
* At 8:15 PM Wednesday the stage was 7.8 feet, or 3.2 feet below
flood stage.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* No flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise to flood stage Thursday evening. Continue rising to
12.9 feet, or 1.9 feet above flood stage, Saturday evening.
* Impact... at 13.0 feet, closure of Iowa 4 is likely. Some of the
Airport runways are threatened. Water flows into boggess gravel
pits.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of north central Iowa, northwest Iowa, and west
central Iowa, including the following areas, in north central
Iowa, Hancock, Humboldt, Kossuth, and Winnebago. In northwest
Iowa, Emmet, Palo Alto, and Pocahontas. In west central Iowa,
SAC.

* Through Thursday morning

* a widespread total swath of 1.5 to 3 inches of rainfall with
higher total amounts over 4 inches is anticipated through
tonight. This heavy rain will fall on top of an already
saturated ground from recent rains earlier this week.

* Be prepared for water over roads due to rapid rises on creeks
and streams or even water flowing from farm fields. If a Road
is closed or if water is running over it, please find an
alternate Route. Turn around don't drown.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

A storm survey may be conducted by the National Weather Service
office in Des Moines in Perry, IA on Thursday in relation to the
strong thunderstorms that moved through the area on 6/20/18.

Any results and conclusions of the survey will be completed and
transmitted via a public information statement and also posted to our
website [weather.Gov/dmx] by Thursday afternoon.
